Permanent Way (PERWAY) Design & Engineering
Including Drainage and Signalling Integration
We provide PERWAY design services developed in alignment with new and upgraded signalling routes, ensuring full integration between track layout, turnouts, earthworks, drainage systems, and signalling interfaces.
Our PERWAY design services include:
- Review of existing track layouts, as-built records, and condition assessments
- Track geometry, alignment, gradient, and clearance optimisation
- Turnout and special trackwork layout design
- Formation, ballast, and subgrade design inputs
- Drainage design for surface and sub-surface water management, including catchwater drains, longitudinal drains, cross drains, and outlet structures

Construction and Maintenance of PERWAY Works
With Integrated Earthworks and Drainage
We deliver integrated PERWAY construction services using mechanised methods to ensure precision, consistency, and durability.
Our scope includes:
- Earthworks and formation rehabilitation, including removal of fouled materials
- Construction and rehabilitation of surface and sub-surface drainage systems to control water flow and prevent formation saturation
- Installation of ballast layers, sleepers, rails, and fastening systems
- Construction and renewal of turnouts and special trackwork
- Certified rail welding (alumino-thermic) and joint finishing
- Mechanised tamping, ballast regulation, and geometry correction
- Final inspection, testing, and handover documentation
- Track condition assessment to determine asset condition

Turnout Replacement Using On-Track Machinery
Including Track Material Supply, Earthworks, Drainage and Welding
We undertake complete turnout replacement projects within live rail corridors and planned shutdowns, recognising that effective drainage is critical to turnout performance.
Our turnout replacement services include:
- Removal and installation of turnouts and track panels
- Bulk earthworks and formation rehabilitation within turnout zones
- Supply of complete track material within the turnout scope
- Construction and rehabilitation of localised drainage systems to prevent water accumulation beneath turnouts

Testing, commissioning, and certification
Earthworks, Formation & Drainage Engineering
We address the root causes of track degradation through comprehensive earthworks and drainage engineering.

- Formation and subgrade rehabilitation to specified standards

Ballast Tamping Using On-Track Tamping Machinery

- Redistribution of ballast within the crib area
- Shaping and compaction of ballast shoulders to provide lateral track restraint
- Removal of excess ballast from rail seats, sleepers, and fastenings
- Formation of correct ballast profiles to facilitate effective drainage
Rail Welding Services
We deliver certified rail welding as part of construction and renewal works, ensuring structural continuity and consistent track performance through:

Electrified Corridor & OHTE Interface Works
